In March 2009, the bicentennial of the Porvoo Diet was celebrated in the city of Porvoo, before the eyes of the Finnish nation. In association with the festivities regarding the commemoration of 1809 (Building a nation) and the “Laulu Suomelle” celebration drama, produced by YLE Draama, staged in the Porvoo Cathedral, Eventforum organized an evening reception for the city of Porvoo and its honored guests, including several heads of state. The foremost aim of the reception was to commemorate this special and significant point in Finnish history.

The reception was held at Porvoon Taidetehdas, on the banks of the river of Porvoo. The theme of the event followed the set bicentennial feel and certain elements from 200 years ago had been implemented into the evening festivities. The historical points of reference could be seen in the menu, which closely followed the original Diet menu, the decorations as well as the entertainment. The celebration was deemed a success and we were pleasantly surprised to see that the event sparked an interest in the national media as well.
